Eddie Brill's Comedy Workshop comes to Seattle

Tribblerun Productions is bringing Eddie Brill's Comedy Workshop to Seattle for all interested comics. If you're not familiar with the name, Eddie Brill is not only a well-respected stand-up comedian, he's also been the warm-up comedian and talent coordinator for "The Late Show with David Letterman" for over ten years.

The workshop will run June 8th, 9th and 10th at Mainstage Comedy & Music Club. The schedule includes three two hour morning workshops and an early evening panel discussion.

There will also be three showcase shows in front of weekend audiences at Mainstage specifically directed for Letterman consideration and Eddie will give each performer a one-on-one review of their set to help guide you towards a more tv-ready showcase set. The showcases are going to be filmed in a professional three camera format.

This personal attention, industry expertise and potential opportunity comes with a price. Every comedian considering this workshop should research the costs and make their own decision about the value of participating in the workshop. There is a specific cost for the workshop and a separate charge for a video package from the showcase (including the raw footage from each camera AND an edited version mixing the three cameras into one final six minute clip.)

For more information on the workshop: Click here
(Click on Schedule and Register on the side menus for more information)

For an email address to inquire about being booked for the showcase: Click here

(Note: I'm uncertain if you automatically get put into the showcases if you register for the workshop, although that would seem likely. It also seems to me that some will be considered for being booked for the showcase who choose NOT register for the workshop.)

On this episode of Jericho: Has anyone heard from Tacoma's Comedy Underground?

Here at SeattleComedy.net, we're happy that our news page is back up and running--but more work was done to get the Calendar section up-to-date.

Imagine our dismay when all of our efforts to let you know exactly who is performing at the major area comedy clubs are running into a snag when it comes to the wonderful new Comedy Underground location in Tacoma (at the Varsity Grill, a former Jillian's--definitely one of my favorite places to perform and see comedy in the Pacific Northwest.)

We don't know who was there last week...this week...next week...ever. The Comedy Underground website has no information--and when I asked Seattle Comedy Underground's manager, Ron Reid about it, he shrugged and said "You don't know because WE don't know."

How sad is this? A wonderful venue to see comedy--and no information to lure the curious in to check it out?

We'll keep our eyes and ears open...hopefully, we'll get a full schedule slate for them soon. In the meantime, there's always the Seattle Comedy Underground...and NEXT weekend there you'll see...

TBA?!?!?!

Oh, dear.

For fans of Douglas Coupland...

The first ever feature film written by Vancouver's own Douglas (Generation X, Shampoo Planet, MicroSerfs, JPod, etc) Coupland opens in Seattle on Friday May 4th at The Varsity Theatre.

The Comedy Shop moves to Saturday Nights

The Comedy Shop, produced by Third Level Entertainment, is moving--this time, they're not moving venues (these shows were originally at Columbia City Theatre but have since moved to De Afric)--this time, they're moving DAYS.

These shows, featuring comedians rarely seen at Comedy Underground, Giggles or Mainstage...and recognizable to fans of BET's Comic View or HBO's Def Comedy Jam, had been on Friday nights...but as of May 5th, they'll be taking place on Saturday nights...at 8:30pm and 10:30pm.

We'll change our calendar accordingly!

How popular IS Jim Gaffigan in Seattle?

If you're a MySpace friend of Jim Gaffigan, you might want to check your bulletins because Jim's giving his MySpace friends advanced information on purchasing tickets for his shows.

Jim isn't coming to Seattle until November (November 3rd at the Paramount Theatre, to be exact) but the pre-sale for these tickets starts Wednesday May 2nd.

Considering that tickets for the 3rd Annual Marty Riemer :20 Funny Festival at McCaw Hall sold out instantly (that show features our own Duane Goad, the Sklar Brothers and Flight of the Conchords)--maybe adding Jim as a MySpace friend and using the special password that he gave out in that bulletin is a good idea if you plan on seeing him perform here in Seattle.

No Laughs Yet: New Kirkland comedy club opening delayed.

In a bulletin posted on MySpace, Dave "Chili Dog" Dennison has announced that his new business venture--a comedy club in Kirkland--will not open as advertised this weekend due to construction delays.

The weekend was supposed to be part of their "soft opening" strategy of working out the bugs before they would have their official opening (coming later in the month with David Crowe as the headliner.) This weekend's scheduled headliner, Todd Sawyer, is already booked for a different weekend later in the year.

No word yet on how this cancellation will impact the auditions that Dave was hoping to host for future openings at the club.

So...as of this weekend...no Laughs. Not yet.

We'll let you know about when you can Laugh in Kirkland.

UPDATE: The Laughs website has been changed to skip not only this weekend's shows but also NEXT weekend's shows...Friday night would have headlined David Testroet and Saturday night would have headlined Harrold Gomez. According to the website, the club will open with David Crowe, May 17th through the 19th.

We'll keep you posted if we hear anything new.

Back on the chain gang...

It's the first day of May, 2007...and someone flipped the switch and pumped a little juice into the pacemaker of the SeattleComedy.net news page.

Look for regular updates here from now on.

...at least until the pacemaker works.

PS--The answer to the question of "Will there be a Part II to the State of Seattle Comedy report?" is...maybe. Let's see if I can get some regular posts on here first.
